Metro North Affirms Safety Record
In the wake of the major train accident in Washington D.C. on Monday, Metro North is assuring the public, it's systems are safe. Spokesman Dan Brucker says that since 1983, there have been 2 billion rides on the system with no loss of life or very serious injury as a result of one train hitting another. Brucker says that a big reason for the impressive safety record is technology owned by Metro North called automatic train control. A similar technology is now being looked at by the National Transportation Safety Board who may recommend it to everyone. Prior to yesterday's tragedy, Metro North's systems have been upgraded.
