Diocese of Bridgeport Deciding on Appealing Court Ruling of Sexual Abuse Case
The Diocese of Bridgeport is weighing whether to appeal a Connecticut Supreme Court ruling that calls for the release of records detailing sexual allegations against preists. The Diocese has until Friday to decide whether to ask the court to reconsider its ruling. Church officials also could ask the U.S. Supreme Court to consider the case. The court's ruling last month covers more than 12,600 pages of documents from 23 lawsuits against six priests that have been under seal since the Diocese settled the cases in 2001. Most of the boys were altar boys or belonged to the church's youth organizations. The Diocese has said it was "deeply disappointed" in the ruling and was "reviewing our options."
