Connecticut Commuter Council Speaks Out about Proposed Fare Hikes
The Connecticut Rail Commuter Council is not pleased with Governor Rell's proposal to raise Metro North fares by ten-percent. The council says with the poor condition of the current rail cars, the state cannot justify imposing a fare increase until equipment and service improves. The state Department of Transportation will likely begin holding public hearings on the proposed increase soon, as plans call for the increase to take effect in October. A 90 day period of public comment is required before any fare increase can be imposed.
