The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection is acknowledging the recent abundance of consumer product recalls.  Food, necklace sets, baby strollers and many toys have been recalled because of various safety and health hazards.  Officials say the announcements don't necessarily mean product quality and oversight has decreased.

"There is some better scientific testing than there used to be, particularly with food," says Department Commissioner Jerry Farrell.

However, Farrell notes many faulty products from overseas have been making their way into the United States.  He reminds residents the Department does often initiate its own testing to ensure safety.
