State Police Food Drive In Westport
State Police Friday launch a three-day food drive across Connecticut. Troopers will be at four designated Shaw's Supermarket Locations, one on Post Road East in Westport, to collect canned food and non-perishables.
"This time year the food banks suffer extreme shortages," says State Police Lt. Paul Vance. "There are no holidays where collections take place. So we're trying to fill that void and give back to the public."
Vance says there'll be a major crime squad truck, a bomb squad truck and possibly K-9 units at all the locations for people to see. The drive runs Friday morning to Sunday afternoon. Last year's collection netted some 19,000 pounds of food; State Police are hoping to exceed that number this weekend.
