Stamford Parking Garage Rebuild
One subject that came up at Wednesday's Metro North Commuter Council meeting at Government Center in Stamford, was the planned destruction of the parking garage at Stamford station in order to build a new one.
That project, slated to begin in 2010, will take two years and displace at least 800 commuters who park there. Council Chairman Jim Cameron says that although the new garage has funding, the lack of available space during construction will be problematic.
Cameron is telling citizens to begin the process right now of finding alternate parking in other areas of Stamford such as Glenbrook and venturing outside the city to areas like Greenwich.
According to the D.O.T., the garage is in rough shape and it's cheaper to rebuild it then restore it. The new garage will add an additional 200 parking spaces when completed.
