Stamford High School Generator Debate
The debate continues over faulty installation of an emergency generator at Stamford High School and who should pay to fix it. The generator was not properly grounded six years ago prompting safety concerns. The city has already spent the necessary $49,000 to fix the problem but the question now is who should re-imburse the city for that money. Stamford's legal counsels say the general contractor, AFB Construction, is responsible but AFB is pointing the blame at the subcontractor Banton Construction.
"The city is owed the money by the contractor so it's up to the contractor to write the check," says Finance Board member Joe Tarzia who appeared before the Facilities Committee this week. "I'm sure that will be taken care of but I want to keep the pressure on and make sure we don't forget."
Tarzia says it's the responsbility of elected officials to make sure taxpayers don't foot the bill when mistakes are made.
