No Go For Wilton Liquor Store
It looks as though Wilton will not be getting a liquor store anytime soon despite the hopes of many residents. Betty Quigley and her husband gathered signatures from nearly 300 Wilton residents to force a public meeting on allowing retail liquor sales in the town.
Wilton's charter only requires 50% of a town's voters to force a public meeting regarding liquor permits. In Wilton that means 1,100 signatures.
Futhermore, the state requires a liquor permit petition to be submitted at least 60 days before the November elections. Quigley says there simply isn't enough time to gather the 1,100 names needed by early September.
