Saying teachers and parents will be very pleased with the results, Greenwich school officials are excited about the new evaluation system for teachers.  Unlike some other districts, the new method is not dependent on students' specific academic achievements or performance on standardized testing.

"It's tied to student growth in the classroom," says Human Resources Director Ellen Flanagan.  "It's more looking at student work as well as the usual going into classrooms and observing, classroom visits, etc."

The new system has been in the making for two years.  Flanagan says they'll be using it on some teachers this school year with full implementation predicted for the 2009-2010 school year.
