DEP Headed To Darien
The state Department of Environmental Protection will be in Darien Thursday to survey the Heights Road area, which because of a culvert gathers water even during light rain. The goal is to replace some of the underground pipes that have been there for more than 100 years. Darien has already submitted a proposal to the DEP but it was rejected because of disruption to some of the local wetlands.
"We want to work with the town to help re-submit the application, address the concerns we've raised, also be able to get the permit they need from the Army Corps. of Engineers and then move to get the work done to solve this problem," says DEP spokesman Dennis Schain.
The DEP's original visit last month was postponed because of statewide flooding caused by a heavy rainstorm.
