The driver killed when a box truck crossed over the median and hit into him head on was identified by police as 56-year-old Alfie Packenham of New Paltz, N.Y. Packenham was pronounced dead at the scene at 2 p.m. Tuesday on Route 7 in Wilton.

The driver of the box truck, Keith Kiley, 23, of East Haven was taken to Norwalk Hospital.

Wilton police Capt. Michael Lombardo said the truck driven by Kiley struck a guard rail on the right side of the road and then crossed the center line and collided head on with the pickup truck driven by Pakenham.

"Route 7 was closed for  about four hours after the accident and the investigation is ongoing," said Lombardo. Police are investigating whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
