Phillies Look To Increase Lead On Mets
(Philadelphia, PA) -- The Philadelphia Phillies look to increase their lead in the National League East when they conclude a three-game series with the Braves at Turner Field. The Phillies topped the Braves 6-1 last night to maintain their half-game lead on the Mets in the NL East. The Mets wrap up a four-game set in Washington against the Nats.
Sabres Lock Up Pominville
(Buffalo, NY) -- The Buffalo Sabres have agreed to terms with forward Jason Pominville on a five-year contract extension. Pominville played in all 82 games last season and recorded 27 goals and 53 assists. The 25-year-old has 61 goals and 87 helpers over his first three NHL seasons.
Broncos' Marshall Faces Battery Charges
(Undated) -- ESPN.com is reporting misdemeanor charges against Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall have been filed in Georgia. The site says Marshall pleaded guilty last Friday to a reduced charge of driving while ability-impaired, stemming from a drunken driving arrest in October of 2007.
Colts' Sanders Out At Least A Month
(Indianapolis, IN) -- Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders will miss at least a month due a high ankle sprain. Team president Tom Polian told a local television station on Wednesday that Sanders would be out four-to-six weeks. Sanders, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year, suffered the injury in last weekend's win over Minnesota.
#22 West Virginia Battles Colorado
(Boulder, CO) -- The 22nd-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers head to Colorado tonight to battle the Buffaloes. West Virginia is 1-and-1 on the season after falling to East Carolina in their previous game two weeks ago. Colorado is off to a 2-and-0 start after wins over Colorado State and Eastern Washington. Kickoff tonight is slated for 8:30 Eastern.
