The Medium Is The Message
House Republicans are back on the floor of the US House today, demanding action on energy issues, as Congress takes a five week summer break.
Last Friday, Republicans also held their own "session" of the House after adjournment, getting standing ovations from tourists as they demanded votes on offshore drilling and more.
You probably didn't see any of that on the evening news and didn't hear any of those speeches on the radio - and you won't see or hear them today either, because recording is not allowed on the House floor when it's not in session.
A group of 20 members marched in together on Monday morning after a short stop at the microphones where reporters were gathered.
The GOP members refused to answer any questions about their second day of "protest" on the House floor, so that's all we got.
Reporters have urged GOP Press Secretaries and lawmakers to move their protest to another location, where we could at least get video and audio, but they have refused.
So, the only people who will get to watch this are some tourists rumbling their way through the Capitol today on a guided tour.
Republicans tried to make it as much like a regular session as possible, beginning with a prayer and then leading tourists in the Pledge of Allegiance.
I can go into the chamber and watch from the press seats, but can't record. I can hear the applause at times just down the hall here in my House booth where I am writing this.
Marshall McLuhan coined the line "The medium is the message." Once again today, House Republicans have a message, but it isn't getting as much play as it could.
