GOP Energy Speeches Day Four
About a dozen GOP'ers showed up Tuesday for the festivities, down from the two dozen on Monday, where Republicans vowed to keep their protest going until Democrats give in and allow votes on new offshore drilling and more.
Talkmaster Neal Boortz had some interesting advice for Republicans - make your point by having all 199 House GOP members show up, instead of just a dozen here and two dozen there.
Republicans tried to spice things up for the camera as best they could, as they brought a California family to the microphones to tell reporters what needs to be done on energy matters.
The Sears Family of Del Mar, California weren't shy about standing in front of the cameras just off the House floor and giving reporters a few comments.
"What the Democrats are doing right now is ridiculous," said Mr. Sears, who told reporters that gas prices in his neck of the woods were in the $4.60 range.
"I'm all for alternative energy, but until I get one of those windmills on top of my Expedition, it's not going to work."
(I'd say, get that guy a job putting together snappy sound bites for the House GOP.)
Things seemed to be going fine for the Republicans and their afternoon news conference, when they suddenly got a question from a guy who immediately gave off vibes that he didn't have the right press credentials to be hanging out with us on the second floor of the Capitol.
"Sen. David Vitter dressed up diapers and goes to prostitutes, and you support him?" said the pseudo-reporter, who got the attention of everyone by mentioning John McCain and "his dipstick" at the outset.
As the guy was led away by a Capitol Police officer, he was described by Rep. John Carter as a "lying scoundrel."
Can't say when I've heard that lately.
Today, the GOP members will be back on the floor, giving more speeches that America won't hear, so to make things more interesting, there will be a special guest star.
Yes, the man who created the Mother of All Congressional Revolutions back in 1994, former Speaker Newt Gingrich will be on hand to rally fellow Republicans.
No word on whether Newt will use his privileges to go on the House floor and give a speech of his own.
